China-UK Innovation Strategy and Policy Research Network Set up at the 4th China-UK Innovation and Development Forum

Nov. 12, the China-UK Innovation Strategy and Policy Research Network was set up at the 4th China-UK Innovation and Development Forum at University of Oxford, forming an open platform for further promoting the bilateral cooperation, supported by more than 30 major research institutions and universities in China and UK, including University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, etc. The founding institutions are the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Technology and Management Centre for Development, University of Oxford.

Researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurs from China and Britain gathered together and shared perspectives under the theme of "Emerging technologies and the future of economy and society", aiming at tackling a wide range of issues to address challenges in the development and fostering cooperation between China-UK innovation.

A new round of technological and industrial revolution is sweeping the world, and profoundly changing the way of production and lifestyle of human beings, PAN Jiaofeng, president of the Institutes of Science and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASISD), said during his opening remarks. “It is an important mission of all STI strategy and policy research institutions to accurately grasp these new trends and challenges and provide high-level consultation for the formulation of national science and technology policies and scientific and technological cooperation.”

Diego Sanchez-Ancochea, head of Oxford Department of International Development, University of Oxford, said that China is one of the best examples of successful development in many ways, especially in the success of continuing to promote an inclusive innovation process in front of the common challenges of the world.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) collectively invest £7 billion in research and innovation each year. Grace (Lin) Lang, UKRI China Director, indicated that they intend to promote China-UK innovation cooperation in the fields of society and culture, aging and climate in future.

"In this year's forum, China-UK Innovation Strategy and Policy Research Network was officially set up, hoping to get more people involved in China-UK innovation cooperation and communication," said Xiaolan Fu, founding director of the Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) of the University of Oxford.

Louise Richardson, Vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford, praised the continuous efforts made by the two sides and expressed her expectation for future China-UK innovation cooperation in all aspects on her concluding speech.

This forum was co-organized by CASISD, TMCD, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, Association of British Chinese Professors and China-Britain Business Council.
